Madeline Long Kerr is a Michigan artist working in graphite (black) pencil, watercolor, and colored pencil. Her work reflects the desire to do “pleasant” art; art that will make people happy when viewing it. She is inspired by God, her surrounding vistas, people and pets.
Vintage cars, newly added to her repertoire, are fun to do.
Subject matter includes portraits of people and pets, as well as maritime and other nautical scenes, land and seascapes, florals and still life.
As a little girl, age two to four, she was given coloring books and encouraged by her parents to “stay in the lines”. Her mother imbued in her a color sense and those wonderful crayons with the multi colors - what fun!
At ages four to six she was drawing by the hour - horses and clipper ships being her favorite. Later she discovered portraits in a magazine her mother received. The artist was Edwin Giorgi and she fell in love with portraiture, later adding watercolor and colored pencil to her repertoire.
Please enjoy looking at the samples below: Graphite of her mother and father, and others; colored pencil of the dog and others and watercolor as seen by the portrait of the ice breaker, Mackinac (now retired) which worked to keep the shipping lanes open in Michigan’s wintry weather, as well as the other samples shown.
Her work has a luminous quality but with special attention to detail; she has been called a Renaissance artist because of her attention to detail and realism. Please enjoy your tour through her website and thank you for your attention.
She welcomes commissions.
